If you are a property seeking coverage, please see our ‘Work With Us’ page.

Most travelers choose to stay in pretty ritzy resorts when they visit Macau. In the Chinese and Portuguese-influenced territory, many resorts double as casinos, attracting big rollers from around the world. Macau is a great place to get a taste of the luxe life, but it’s easy to get lost in the crowd when you stay in a huge hotel. Legend Palace Hotel provides all the pizazz of the larger luxury resorts in Macau – but on a smaller, more intimate scale. When it comes to hotels, bigger isn’t always better.

This is the grand facade of Legend Palace Hotel in Macau.

Legend Palace Hotel Review

When you arrive at Legend Palace hotel, you may feel like you’ve dropped straight into a pretty pastel fairy tale land. The plush property, just a five-minute walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, is inspired by breezy French Monaco. The marble columned lobby, stained glass ceiling and crystal chandelier make quite the impression, but the rooms are just as beautiful.

[yasr_overall_rating null size=”large”]

The lobby is ornate – with marble floors, an enormous light blue carpet, a glass ceiling and ginormous crystal chandelier.

Location: 9/10

Although the entire territory is named Macau, the northern region is also called Macau – and it’s connected to the regions of Taipa, Cotai and Coloane by two bridges over the Zhujiang River Estuary, Ponte de Sai Van and Ponte de Amizade. Legend Palace Hotel sits on the Eastern coast of Macau, smack dab in the middle of the northern portion of the territory. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the Macau Ferry Terminal, which is convenient for ferry travelers from Hong Kong, and it is just five minutes from a collection of restaurants, shops and other curious sites of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. (The most curious site is probably the modern replica of the Roman Colosseum.)

If you have all day to walk around, and the weather’s not sweltering, you can walk to the 17th-century Monte Fort, Walls of Macau and the Ruins of St. Paul’s in just over half an hour. The streets around this area are lovely, and you can wander south to the Teatro Dom Pedro V and the famous Margaret’s Café e Nata for well-deserved egg tarts. Other options include navigating the bus system – or just taking a taxi. Either way, Legend Palace Hotel has a pretty sweet location.

Here’s a glimpse of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf at nighttime.

Service & Facilities: 9/10

I can’t fault the service of the attentive Legend Palace Hotel staff
because I felt welcome from check-in to check-out. While I stayed in the pool
cabana, the sun shifted; and one staff member even offered to move my lounger
out of the sunny spot to prevent me from getting sunburnt.

Although Legend Palace Hotel is quite small, it has all the facilities that you would expect at a resort. The hotel has a fitness centre and a spa called ‘Senses Health Club’. Its year-round outdoor pool plays music underwater and is bordered one side by lovely little cabanas. (When I stayed, using the cabanas or a bottle of water didn’t even cost extra.) There’s also a jacuzzi on the pool deck. I only shared the space with a few other guests, but I can imagine that the area could easily feel crowded. To round off the facilities, Legend Palace Hotel has a conference room, business centre – and a ballroom.

This is the pool area at Legend Palace Hotel. You can just see the jacuzzi between the two large pillars.

Rooms: 10/10

Once you’ve
made it Macau and opened the door to your sophisticated room in Legend Palace
Hotel, it’s understandable if you feel like cancelling all of your Macau trip
plans and opting for a foreign stay-cation, instead. The resort hotel’s 223 rooms and suites
are immaculate. The Chairman Suite and the Royal Suite are the most grand, but
families would be more than happy in the Two Bedroom Executive Suite with
private garden. The patio has a picnic table and umbrella, as well as two
really cool loungers with a collapsible half-cover. Indoors, there is a small kitchen,
dining table and bar.

I stayed in
an Executive Room at this five-star hotel in Macau, which at many other hotels,
would be considered a suite – since it has a distinct living area and sleeping
area, which can be closed off with mirrored sliding doors. Its 62 square metres
are beautifully decorated. Gold accents gleam on the highly polished mahogany
and cherry wood furniture, the deep colours balancing the light lavender and
cornflower panels on the wall. Even the air vent is decorative – a white
curlicued piece of artwork.

This is the bedroom area of Legend Palace Hotel’s Executive Room.

There are almost too many places to sit in Legend Palace Hotel’s Executive Room. Once you clear the foyer with the golden room control panel, you can sit in a chair at a small round table, which could act as a desk – except there’s actually a chair and desk just to the left of the massive flat screen TV in the other corner of the room. The small sofa, flanked by two side tables, behind a large coffee table takes up most of the room, but there’s still space for an additional armchair. In the bedroom, a stool sits at the vanity and an additional armchair is paired with a footstool – and outside you’ll find chairs and a side table on each balcony (one off the living room, one off the bedroom).

L’Occitane
toiletries await in the bathroom, which has a lovely tub, an adjustable
showerhead, a rain showerhead, double sink basins and a television built into
the mirror. Once you’re feeling fresh, the provided robe and slippers are
plenty comfy to wear in the privacy of your room.

The little seating areas at Lounge on Eight are so cute and cozy.

Food & Drink: N/A

There is no shortage of dining options at Legend Palace Hotel. Guests
can find lighter fare at the Float pool bar and Lounge on Eight. Infinite is
open 24 hours a day, serving both Chinese and Western cuisine – but for fine
Cantonese dining, guests should choose The Grand Palace. This restaurant also
offers ten VIP rooms with balconies over the water, pantries and private
toilets. Brasserie de Paris offers global cuisine from a buffet and set à la
carte menus, and guests can enjoy views of Ponte de Amizade from the outdoor
dining area. Meanwhile, The Gallery is the place to go for vintage whiskey,
wines and liquor.

Although I didn’t indulge in the cuisine here, the gifted fruit plate
was superlative. (Seriously, where do they source their produce?)

These tables are set at The Grand Palace, and their VIP dining rooms are further inside.

Value: 8/ 10

Legend Palace Hotel actually qualifies as a five-star deluxe hotel,
which trumps a ‘regular’ five-star hotel in Macau. While a night here will set
you back about $200 USD per night for a Superior Room, or $250 USD per night
for an Executive Room, the value for money at this high-end Macau hotel isn’t
bad.

Insider Tips

If you treat yourself to a spa session, choose the Thai massage – since it’s their speciality.

Although the walk is short, you can take the complimentary hotel shuttle to Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal when you depart.
